A&P links up with LA based skateboarder and artist, Mike Gigliotti for this next project. Mike views jiu-jitsu and skateboarding under the same lens by saying, “Jiu-Jitsu and skateboarding, it never ends. There’s never a win or a loss for me. It’s learning something new every time, everyday, and it never gets old. Also, both will humble the hell out of you!”
Jiu-Jitsu and skateboarding reached full circle in this project as Mike used to see a young Zata Toscano, who is now jiu-jitsu black belt and model skater for this project, skating at Tompkins Square Park offering pointers on executing tricks. Fast forward to today and Zata Toscano is still skating and now black belt. Having him model the pieces for this collection only made sense.
Mike is known for his hand drawn cartoon doodle style and we were able to apply his artwork for this project through different mediums such as print, embroidery, and sublimation. This collection will include kimonos, a long sleeve rash guard, training shorts, shirts, wearable kimono pants and a sticker pack all featuring artwork Mike Gigliotti drew just for this project.
The Kimonos will come be available in white and in black. The white kimono features embroidered designs under a tear-away fabric that reveal themselves through wear. The black kimono is decorated with printed design art. Both come with knapsacks for storage and carry.
